SGG PRIVA-LITE® at Angkor airport

In the departure lounge at Angkor International airport in Cambodia, three glass screens measuring 2 x 3 metres display images of the most famous temples to visitors who are waiting to board their flights - reviving their memories just as they are about to leave the country.

Application as projector screen at Angkor airporton the left : OFF - on the right ONThe particular characteristic of this system lies in the use of SGG PRIVA-LITE controlled opacity glass manufactured by Saint-Gobain. Translucent for displaying images, the screen becomes transparent once the image display is over, returning the lounge to its original spaciousness.

SGG PRIVA-LITE® technology

SGG PRIVA-LITE is a laminated glass made up of two sheets of transparent or tinted glass, with a liquid crystal (LC) film between them. The two surfaces of this film are covered by a transparent electrically conductive layer and connected to a flat electrical conductor on one side of the glass, a few millimetres from the edge. This allows the glass to be connected to an electrical power supply.
When SGG PRIVA-LITE is not powered up, the liquid crystals encapsulated in the LC film are not aligned and their random positioning transmits light in all directions. SGG PRIVA-LITE is then translucent, providing the intimacy required.
Once an electrical field is established between the two conductive layers, the liquid crystals become aligned. SGG PRIVA-LITE then becomes like a pane of transparent glass.
The change from opacity to transparency is virtually instantaneous, and can be repeated as frequently as required. Offering excellent performance as a projection screen, SGG PRIVA-LITE is also used as a window or interior wall.

A "spatial" solution
